The Goshen RedHawks claimed their first sectional title since 2008 on Monday night with a 7-1 victory over the Northridge Raiders. Junior pitcher Ryen Diaz led the way on the mound for the RedHawks throwing a complete game that included 0 walks and 5 strikeouts. The only run Diaz gave up was in the final inning when the game was all but sealed. Diaz threw only 77 pitches, all but 20 of them being strikes and had a perfect defense behind him committing 0 errors as a team. The RedHawk offense was able to put constant pressure on the Raiders from start to finish. Goshen scored runs in all but the 1st inning and the 4th inning. In the bottom of the first inning the RedHawks put 2 runners on base after grounding out to end the inning. In the 2nd inning, Goshen led off with 3 straight base runners. Jensen Meikle walked, Bray Hoag singled, and Karter Marcum got hit by a pitch. Quinn Shreiner Landes stepped up with the bases loaded and was hit by a pitch as well to bring in the games first run. Jaxon Miller hit a ground ball that scored another runner to give Goshen the 2-0 lead. In the 3rd inning, Colton Rapp reached base via another hit by pitch followed by a Bray Hoag single that scored courtesy runner Spencer Elliott. Goshen led 3-0 after 3 innings. The biggest Goshen inning came in the bottom of the 5th. Colton Rapp and Jensen Meikle led the inning off with back to back doubles followed by a bunt single by Bray Hoag, another Karter Marcum hit by pitch, and a Bryson Wilson bunt single. Through all of that action, Goshen plated 3 runs to double their lead to 6-0. The RedHawks added 1 more insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning on another Bray Hoag single that scored Kyan Miller who reached on a walk earlier in the inning. That run took a 7-0 lead into the final frame. Diaz allowed two base runners in the final frame, which was the first time the Raiders got a runner to 3rd base. He eventually scored before Diaz struck out the games final batter to give Goshen the 7-1 victory. Goshen stormed the field as the final out was made to earn their first sectional crown in 17 years. The Goshen sectional saw their pitching and defense allow only 1 run and the offense outputting 12 runs in the 2 games. The RedHawks continue postseason play on Saturday when they will matchup against the Penn Kingsmen. That game time and location is TBD and will be announced on Wednesday.
