Varsity Baseball Bounces Back in Non-Conference Win

The Goshen varsity baseball team got back in the winning column with a victory on Saturday morning against the Westview Warriors. Colton Rapp picked up the win on the mound pitching 1.1 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit and 0 walks. Rapp came in to the game with the RedHawks trailing 8-6 and held on after they took the lead. Goshen opened the game with 2 runs in the 1st inning and 2 runs in the 2nd inning to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Braxton Cline had a 2 out double in the first, Kyan Miller walked and then both were driven in on a 2 out, 2 RBI triple from Jensen Meikle. The 2 runs in the 2nd inning were scored when Ryen Diaz walked and Quinn Shreiner Landes walked. Jaxon Miller hit a ground ball to short but the Warriors made an error to score 2 runs. Westview came back to score 2 in the 3rd inning, 1 in the 4th inning, and 4 in the 5th inning to take a lead by a score of 8-5. The bottom of the 5th saw Goshen hit back to back triples from Cline and Kyan Miller. Cline scored on Millers triple and then Miller scored on a wild pitch to bring the score to 8-6. Rapp shut the door on the Warriors in the 6th to hold the score. In the bottom of the 6th inning, the RedHawk bats erupted. Bryson Wilson led off with a bunt single, Quinn Shreiner Landes hit a bunt single and both were advanced on a Jaxon Miller sacrifice bunt. Braxton Cline drove both runners in to tie the game on a double down the left field line. The RedHawks took the lead when Cline scored on a Kyan Miller single. Bray Hoag, Colton Rapp, and Bryson Wilson all reached base on hits and extneded the lead to 13-8. Rapp shut the door to close out the game in the 7th. Goshen continues NLC play on Monday when they travel to Mishawaka to take on the Cavemen at 5:30pm.
