Baseball Comeback Bid Falls Short

The Goshen RedHawks lost to New Prairie on Thursday night by a score of 10-6, moving their season record to 1-2. Goshen jumped on the board first in the top of the 4th inning when Quinn Shreiner Landes drove in Braxton Cline on a sacrifice fly. Kyan Miller then drove in Shreiner Landes on a double to extend the lead to 2-0. New Prairie battled back to tie the game in the 4th inning and then took the lead later in the inning to bring the score to 3-2 heading into the 5th inning. In the top of the 5th Goshen left the bases loaded to eliminate the threat of tying or taking the lead. The 5th and 6th innings were ones to forget for the RedHawks as New Prairie extended their 3-2 lead to 10-2 heading into the final inning. The RedHawks battled until the end. In the 7th inning, Jaxon Miller, Bryson Wilson, Kaden Witty, and Quinn Shreiner Landes all scored to bring the score to 10-6. Jaxon Miller hit a hard ground ball with 2 outs and the bases loaded to end the game. Ryen Diaz took the loss on the mound for the RedHawks. He pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits and only 2 runs while walking no batters. Jensen Meikle gave up 2 hits and 3 earned runs in 1 inning of work on the mound. Goshen is back in action on Saturday when they return home for a double header against the LaPorte Slicers. That game will begin at 11am with a ribbon cutting ceremony scheduled for the new baseball/softball complex before the game.
