Goshen High School Athletics

The Goshen RedHawks (10-13, 6-8 NLC) closed out their conference play with a 3-2 victory over Northwood on senior night. Seniors Payton Bontrager, Damian Castillo, Jace Hershberger and Caelan Miller led the way for the RedHawks. Jace Hershberger picked up the win on the mound pitching 6 innings allowing just 1 hit and 1 unearned run. Hershberger struck out 4 Northwood batters and only walked 1 batter. Sophomore Jensen Meikle picked up the save in the 7th inning to close out the game. Payton Bontrager reached base on a hit by pitch and helped with his defense turning a double play to end a Northwood threat. Damian Castillo collected a hit and scored one of the 3 RedHawk runs. Finally, Caelan Miller drove in a run and collected two hits for the RedHawk offense. The score was knotted at 0 until the 5th inning when Northwood drove in a run on a single up the middle to take the 1-0 lead. Goshen would come roaring back in the 6th with 3 runs of their own. Kaden Witty was able to drive in Kyan Miller and Damian Castillo who both reached on base hits. Caelan Miller then drove in Witty when he hit a slow ground ball to second base and beat the throw to 1st. Jensen Meikle came in the 7th inning and slammed the door after Northwood was able to push a run across. He struck out 2 batters in the inning to pick up the save. Goshen wraps up their regular season at home on Thursday when they host East Noble at 5:30pm
