RedHawk Baseball Drops NLC Opener in Extra Innings

The Goshen RedHawks baseball team (3-5, 0-1 NLC) fell to Northridge on Monday night in extra innings by a score of 6-5. The RedHawks outhit the Raiders 15 to 13 on the night, but came up short on the scoreboard. The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead in the 2nd inning when Colton Rapp drove in a run on a ground out. Caelan Miller and Bryson Wilson each drove in a run as well in the inning with singles to bring the score to 3-0. The score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the 6th where the Raiders would score 2 runs to knock Kyan Miller off the mound. Miller ended the night with 5 innings pitched, giving up 2 runs and striking out 5 Northridge batters. Ryen Diaz cleaned up the mess to hold the lead to 3-2. The 7th inning Northridge was able to push another run across to send the game into extra innings. In extra innings, the two teams traded runs in both the 9th and 11th innings. Bryson Wilson scored in the 9th with a steal of home and in the 11th, Braxton Cline scored on a bunt from Kyan Miller. Ryen Diaz pitched the majority of extra innings giving up 8 hits and 3 runs with 8 strikeouts. Bryson Wilson pitched the 12th and took a tough loss on the mound. The RedHawks offense was led by Caelan Miller who tallied 3 hits on the evening and drove in 1 run. Multiple RedHawks tallied 2 hits on the contest as well. Goshen continues NLC play with a home game against Warsaw on Wednesday night starting at 5:30pm.
