Varsity Baseball Splits with LaPorte

The Goshen RedHawks baseball team traveled to LaPorte on Saturday for a double header against the Slicers. The RedHawks split the 2 game set with LaPorte, losing the first game 2-3 and winning game 2 by a score of 10-4. Their record moves to 3-4 on the young season. In game 1, Jace Hershberger took a tough loss on the mound. He pitched a complete game only giving up 3 runs on 10 hits while walking 0 batters. The RedHawks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Quinn Shreiner Landes and Kyan Miller scored. Shreiner Landes scored on a past ball while Miller was drove in by Kaden Witty. Witty and Caelan Miller led the Goshen offense on the day, collecting two hits apiece. LaPorte scored 1 run in the 5th inning and 2 in the 6th inning to steal the victory away from the RedHawks. Goshen was able to bounce back in game 2, collecting 12 hits in the contest on the way to a 10-4 victory. Goshen scored 8 runs in the 2nd inning and never looked back. Caelan Miller did a little bit of everything for Goshen in the game. He started the game, pitching 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while only walking two batters. He also collected 2 hits and stole a base offensively. Bryson Wilson came in relief and picked up the win on the mound. He pitched 3 clean innings with 0 hits, 0 runs and struck out 3 Slicer batters. Quinn Shreiner Landes, Kaden Witty, and Jensen Meikle all drove in 2 runs apiece while Braxton Cline collected multiple hits as well. The Goshen RedHawks continue their road games on Monday when they travel to Northridge to take on the Raiders in the teams first NLC game of the season.
