Varsity Baseball Loses to Fairfield

The Goshen Baseball team lost to Fairfield on Tuesday night by a score of 15-7. Ryen Diaz took the loss on the mound for the RedHawks surrendering 10 runs on 6 hits. Caelan Miller and Bryson Wilson pitched in relief. Wilson tallied 5 strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched. Goshen got the scoring started in the 2nd inning when Payton Bontrager hit a home run over the centerfield fence, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. Fairfield returned the favor in the bottom of the 2nd when they hit a 2 run home run of their own. The top of the 3rd, Goshen was able to push across 2 more runs with RBIs from Karter Marcum and Jensen Meikle, making the score 3-2. Unfortunately, the RedHawks struggled in the bottom of the 3rd surrendering 12 runs, making the score 14-3. In the 4th inning, Goshen was able to push 4 more across with RBIs from Kyan Miller and Colton Rapp. Braxton Cline reached base 3 times for the RedHawk offense and scored a run. Quinn Shreiner Landes scored 2 runs to chip in and help the offense. Goshen returns to action with a home game Wednesday night against West Noble. That game will begin at 5:30pm at Phend Field. The Goshen JV team dropped their season opener to Fairfield by a score of 11-6. Maverick Snyder collected 2 hits and drove in 2 runs to lead the offense.
