Baseball Loses in Regular Season Finale

The Goshen Baseball team fell in their season finale on Saturday morning at the hands of Lake Central by a score of 10-4. Bray Hoag took the loss on the mound, dropping his record to 4-2 on the season. Hoag pitched 4 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. Aaron DeMott and Jensen Meikle also pitched for the RedHawks. After leading the game off with a triple, Lake Central hit a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead. An RBI single extended the lead to 2-0 before the RedHawks came to the plate. Goshen fired back with 3 straight 2 out singles in the bottom of the first but got thrown out trying to extend on the base paths, coming up empty in the 1st inning. Goshen came back and tied the game up in the 2nd inning after a Manny Pizana lead off single and a Deivis Freitez walk gave the RedHawks runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out. The runners advanced 90 feet after a stolen base. Brady Kwilinski drove in Pizana with a sacrifice fly. Spencer Elliott then singled to bring home courtesy runner David Castillo, knotting the game up at 2-2. Lake Central stormed back in the top of the 3rd with 4 more runs giving them a 6-2 lead after 3 innings. In the 4th inning, the RedHawks cut the lead in half. Back to back walks with 1 out gave the RedHawks runners on 1st and 2nd. The runners advanced up on a passed ball. Spencer Elliott grounded out to bring home Colton Rapp and Brady Kwilinski then scored on a Braxton Cline single. Lake Central tacked on 2 runs in the top of the 5th and 2 more in the top of the 7th, giving them a 10-4 lead. The score would remain there to finish out the game. The RedHawks open the Class 4A sectional on Wednesday night against Warsaw. The sectional will be hosted at Goshen and the game begins at 6pm.
