RedHawks Finish NLC with Win

The Goshen RedHawks finished NLC play on Wednesday night with a victory over Northwood by a score of 8-3. Goshen finished their first place title with a 13-1 record in the conference and improved their overall record to 18-5 with the victory. Ryen Diaz improved his personal record on the mound to 7-1 pitching a complete game. Diaz gave up 9 hits with 1 strikeout but limited the Panther hitters by spreading out the hits. After a quiet top of the 1st inning, Goshen jumped out to a hot start offensively. Spencer Elliott, Braxton Cline, and Jensen Meikle all singled to load the bases up for Jaxon Miller. Miller singled to bring home Elliott and Cline and gave the RedHawks an early 2-0 lead. Bryson Wilson then singled to load the bases again. Bray Hoag then reached on an error that scored 2 more RedHawks to extend the lead to 4-0 after 1 inning. Northwood scored a run in the top of the 2nd inning and Goshen went scoreless to bring the lead to 4-1 after 2 innings of play. Northwood then cut the lead to 4-3 after scoring 2 more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. The RedHawks answered back with a lead off double in the bottom of the 3rd from Bray Hoag and then he scored on a single from Deivis Freitez. Spencer Elliott then grounded out but brought in Manny Pizana to extend the lead to 6-3 after 3 innings of play. That score remained until the bottom of the 6th inning. Spencer Elliott and Braxton Cline singled back to back to lead the 6th inning off. Elliott and Cline then stole bases to get to 2nd and 3rd base with Jensen Meikle up. Meikle flew out but was picked up by Jaxon Miller who grounded out to bring Elliott home. Cline scored on a single by Bryson Wilson giving Goshen the 8-3 lead after 6 innings. Diaz was able to close the game out in the 7th before Northwood pushed runs across. Goshen finished NLC in 1st place and will wrap their season up with 2 more home games. The RedHawks host East Noble on Thursday night at 5:30pm and will host Lake Central on Saturday morning at 10am to close out their season.
