RedHawk Baseball Takes Down Northridge

After a slow start on Wednesday, the Goshen RedHawks improved to 11-4 (7-1 NLC) after defeating Northridge by a score of 12-6. Bray Hoag got the start on the mound for the RedHawks and didn't have his best stuff early but was able to keep the RedHawks in the game until the offense heated up. Hoag picked up the win on the mound allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 1 strikeout. Jensen Meikle came in and pitched the other 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 3 strikeouts. After getting the first out of the game, Northridge ended up getting multiple base runners and jumped out to the early 1-0 lead. Goshen went down in order in their half of the first inning. Northridge jumped back on the RedHawks for 2 more runs in the 2nd inning to take the early 3-0 lead. Goshen was able to come back in the bottom of the 2nd inning and take the lead and never gave it back up. Colton Rapp beat out a ground ball for a 1 out infield single to spark the offense. After that Bryson Wilson singled to advance Rapp to 3rd. Rapp scored on a 1st/3rd play with Wilson. Wilson then scored on a Karter Marcum single. Brycen Eaton singled and Spencer Elliott walked to load up the bases for Braxton Cline with a 3-2 lead. Cline would walk followed by a Jensen Meikle hit by pitch to give Goshen a 4-3 lead. Once the RedHawks took the lead, Hoag settled in and set the Raider offense down for no runs in the top of the 3rd. Goshen's offense went back to work in the bottom of the 3rd inning on a leadoff walk from Colton Rapp and another single from Bryson Wilson. Manny Pizana would reach on an error from the Northridge 2nd basemen that brought Rapp in to score. Spencer Elliott was able to score Wilson on another error from the Northridge 2nd basemen followed by another hit by pitch from Jensen Meikle. Jaxon Miller singled home Cline and Elliott followed by a double from Rapp to score Meikle. The RedHawks saw a 10-3 lead after 3 innings. After the 3rd inning the RedHawks and Raiders traded runs to see a 12-6 final. The 11 hit night for the RedHawks was led by senior Catcher Colton Rapp who had 3 hits, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. Rapp also stole 2 bases. Bryson Wilson stole 3 bases and earned 3 hits as well for the RedHawks. Goshen continues NLC play with a road game at Warsaw on Friday night. That game is set to begin at 5:30pm against the Tigers.
