The Goshen RedHawks baseball team traveled to Nappanee on Monday night and came out with a victory over Northwood by a score of 11-6. Ryen Diaz picked up the win on the mound while Bray Hoag and Jensen Meikle each contributed pitching on the evening. Diaz pitched 4 innings allowing 4 earned runs and struck out 4 batters. Goshen had a great night at the plate on the night picking up 16 hits as a team. Spencer Elliott led the game off with a single followed by a Braxton Cline RBI triple to open the scoring on the evening. Jensen Meikle drove in Cline with an RBI groundout to bring the lead to 2-0 in the first. Colton Rapp hit a 2 out double followed by a Bryson Wilson RBI single and Bray Hoag single. Bryson Wilson stole home before Karter Marcum lined out as the RedHawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Diaz threw a pitch. The 2nd inning was successful for the Goshen offense as well. Brycen Eaton singled to lead the inning off, followed by a Northwood error off the bat of Spencer Elliott. Braxton Cline hit a single to left field scoring Brycen Eaton. Jensen Meikle bunted Elliott and Cline over and both players were driven in by an RBI double from Colton Rapp giving Goshen the 7-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Northwood was able to score a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning to bring the score to 7-1. Karter Marcum led the 3rd inning off with a double and was driven in by a Spencer Elliott single. Elliott later scored on a ground out by Jensen Meikle to give Goshen the 9-1 lead after 3 innings. The RedHawks appeared to be running away with the game until the bottom of the 4th inning. Northwood put 3 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning to bring the score to 9-4. Braxton Cline hit a 1 out double followed by a triple from Jensen Meikle to bring Cline in and put Goshen in double digits. Meikle scored on an RBI groundout from Colton Rapp. Goshen led 11-4 after the top of the 5th inning. Northwood scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut the score to 11-6. Jensen Meikle and Bray Hoag were able to pitch a scoreless 6th and 7th inning to finish the game. The Goshen offense was led by a 3 hit night from Braxton Cline. Jensen Meikle and Colton Rapp each contributed 3 RBIs. Cline and Spencer Elliott scored 3 runs. The RedHawks improved to 10-4 (6-1 NLC) after the first round of conference play is completed. They'll host Northridge on Wednesday night to begin the 2nd round of NLC play.
