Goshen Baseball dropped game 1 of a double header that started before spring break on April 2nd. The game was delayed due to lightning with Elkhart leading 4-1 in the top of the 5th inning. Elkhart made the trek back to Goshen to complete that double header and play a 2nd game on Friday night. Elkhart ended up winning the first game by a score of 10-2. Game 2 started with a RedHawk offense that was ready to quickly move past game 1. After a 3 up and 3 down first inning for Ryen Diaz on the mound, Goshen put up 3 runs in the 1st inning. Spencer Elliott walked to lead off the first for Goshen and advanced to 2nd on a past ball. He was able to avoid an out at 3rd when Braxton Cline hit a ground ball to the 3rd baseman setting up an RBI fielder's choice by Colton Rapp to drive home Elliott. Jensen Meikle drove Cline and Rapp in to extend the lead to 3-0. Goshen added another run in the 4th inning to bring the lead to 4-0. The biggest hit of the night came from sophomore Manny Pizana. He hit a double to right center field to score both Bryson Wilson and Jensen Meikle to extend the lead to 6-0, Pizana would later score on a wild pitch to bring the score to 7-0. Goshen added 2 more insurance runs in the 6th inning to make it a 9-0 game. Deivis Freitez came in for the 7th inning to close the game out. He allowed a lead off double but retired the next 3 Lions hitters. Ryen Diaz picked up the win on the mound bringing his record to 2-1 on the season. Diaz pitched 6 innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 7 batters. Freitez pitched 1 inning allowing 0 runs and striking out 1 batter. Goshen plays another double header tomorrow for a road series at LaPorte. The first game begins at 11am EST.
