RedHawk Baseball Takes Care of the Jimmies

The Goshen RedHawk baseball team improved to 3-1 on Wednesday night with a home victory of the Jimtown Jimmies. Sophomore Aaron DeMott had his first varsity start on the mound after throwing a no hitter in his first JV game of the season on Saturday. DeMott finished with the win on the mound racking up 0 runs given up in 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and no walks surrendered. Deivis Freitez and David Castillo finished up the game for Goshen on the mound. Goshen jumped out to an early lead when Spencer Elliott scored on a Braxton Cline sacrifice fly to give Goshen the 1-0 lead. Later in the first Bryson Wilson drove in Colton Rapp on a single to bring the score to 2-0 after 1 inning. Cline continued a successful night with a 3rd inning single that scored Jaxon Miller to give Goshen the 3-0 lead into the 4th inning. Sophomore Brycen Eaton made his first start for the RedHawks in left field and doubled on a shallow fly ball in the 4th to score Manny Pizana and Karter Marcum extending the lead to 5-0 after 4 innings of play. The RedHawks tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th inning to bring the score to 7-0 with a triple from Senior Catcher Colton Rapp that scored Cline. Rapp later scored on a sacrifice fly from Senior Jensen Meikle. Jimtown broke their scoring drought in the top of the 6th with 3 runs of their own to cut the lead to 7-3. Goshen's biggest offensive inning came in the 6th when Karter Marcum scored on a passed ball, Brycen Eaton scored on a sacrifice fly, and Cline scored on a single. Goshen's offense ended the evening with 9 hits and 6 walks. Cline led the way with 2 hits, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Jensen Meikle added 3 RBIs of his own and Colton Rapp earned 2 RBIs. Bryson Wilson and Brycen Eaton each collected 2 hits. Goshen will complete their game against Elkhart on Friday night at home. That game is currently in the top of the 5th inning with Elkhart leading 4-1. After that game, the RedHawks will travel to LaPorte on Saturday for a double header against the Slicers.
